The ruby slippers were my request, Dave! :-) Obviously, you aren't referring to the Recent Comments section as a homepage and reading all of the posts! :-)

I was saying in other posts that it's odd that the link to the homepage really takes you back to "Recent Comments" and asking why it doesn't go back to the true homepage!

Here's my quote:
"I think it would make more sense for the link to be titled "Recent Comments" rather than "GEWF Home" since it doesn't technically take you "home". Hey, Jack: give it a "ruby slippers" icon as the link and I'll be happy! That would be kinda cool, doncha think?"

I really was joking about the ruby slippers of course, but I'm lovin' that icon up there! :-)

Okay, now my question... "frosting" on meatloaf?!! Do you mean "gravy"? Or frosting for a dessert? Or is this one of those New England names... "frosting" is really "gravy" in New England. :-)

Frosting on a meatloaf is ketchup. At least in my mother's recipe it is. That's why I assume this is Jack dissing on Beth because any country music loving fool can pour ketchup on top of the meatloaf before putting it in the oven.

Oh god, Jack. I know you want to be nice to Jo Ann, but in two weeks no one will remember that and all you will have left is another example of your Paul Lynde side. I mean, why do you think one of the code words is "Friend of Dorothy"? And how that gay rights revolution that started at the Steonewell Inn would certainly not have happened if the drag queens were in major pissed off mood because Judy Garland had taken her life a few nights earlier.

It's hard being the homo of the blog when you keep competing with me for the title.

Which brings up a question -- How do you fit three gay guys on a bar stool?

Hey! Regarding the meatloaf frosting... I actually just noticed the photo before I clicked in here and realized that it's a sauce on top of the meatloaf. (See Sherman... I sometimes go straight from the Recent Comments section and don't always notice the original post... oops!) Anyway, do you really call it "frosting"? I guess I would call that "sauce". By the way, it could be ketchup or a more specialized tomato paste. I was thinking Jack was complimenting Beth. I bet she made a lovely homemade sauce... okay, Jack or Beth... what's the story?

Regarding the ruby slippers icon... ha! Jack: Sherman does have a good point here about the "Paul Lynde" factor! Actually, I never thought you were planning on leaving it up there permanently, but this might be a good reason to definitely remove it at some point! Maybe you can replace it with a photo of Liza. ;-) Notice how that keeps it in the Garland family?!

I call it frosting cause it's mostly brown sugar, and cause it goes on top like frosting.

As for the Paul Lynde thing, I have no idea what you guys are talking about.

As for the bar stool, Sherman, behave yourself.

He wasnt dissing me...I am in the process of learning to cook since my boyfriend does all the cooking and Jack was just trying to help....so I would have mushed the meatloaf together with the stuff that goes in it, but was hesitant to touch raw meat....gross.....

Good for you, Beth! I respect you not wanting to touch raw meat (not meaning your reference, Sherman!). It is a little too "Rosemary's Baby" huh?! (Actually, that's a great movie!)

I'm wondering if everyone in New England calls it "frosting" or is that just Jack? I'm thinking maybe I have heard that before, but I'm not sure. I would definitely call it "sauce".

Anyway, sounds like it was yummy!

cooks.com calls it a PIQUANT SAUCE.

A sou-chef is the lackey helper who does all the kitchen grunt work that we world famous chefs don't want to do. This usually includes handling the raw meat.

"A picture of Opera Lady is sooooo less gay than the ruby slippers." Aww, thanks for the sarcasm, Sherman! (I'll take that as a compliment.) :-)

Yes, Jack... a picture of Sherman is in order!

Where is this picture from anyway? With the sunglasses, I figure it's in Tahoe (or I was going for the Hollywood incognito look). My face looks huge--what's up with that?

Peter, I'll take Sherman in the upper left, please.

Taking a Sherman always means a win.

And I went to Chevy's for the first time. I didn't realize it's a Mexican food place. WIth a name like Chevy's, I figured 50s American Graffitti style food. I had my first ever corn tomalito and it was great. I looked up a recipe for it on line, but I haven't made it yet. Seems like I need to figure out some of the ingredients.

Hey Sherman: You really hadn't been to a Chevy's before? I think the pronunciation of the word is what gives away it's "Mexican food" theme... you have to say it like they pronounce the car in East L.A.

Oh, and to make a Corn Tamalito you just mix potato and mayo together.

Oh great! What else can we talk about on this thread. I have another Chevy connection... I grew up in a Chevy near East LA! A '67 Nova SuperSport. Hot car. I had it in college. Not the car I drove around the country in though... where I went to states that Jack may or may not count depending on if I slept in them or not. I slept in a DoJo in Kansas that got blown down last year in the Kansas City, KS Tornado. My friend lost his house, too. They weren't near Dorothy's house though. That would be in Liberty, KS. I went there, too. Didn't see Dorothy or Toto. I did see Liza though. But that was in California, years later. Tahoe is in California. I used to go there with Jack, Sherman and Rick (and others, too--Rob, Sarah, Becky...). Jack made world famous food. We played poker too; and drank Scotch; and watched videos; and skiied; and ate Peeps and drank Nestle's Strawberry Quik. Good times!

Jack and Scott are coming to Vermont this weekend. I think we will make a piture of Mud Slides, and toast to the weather out in Cal.

I was going to suggest that instead of taking a picture of mud slides, you should drink Mud Slides! But then I realized that that is actually what you are saying, Dave! You'll make a pitcher of Mud Slides! Coolio! To be official, you should drink a lot, really fast. Drink up, boys!

PS: I just noticed that I said that I "grew up in a Chevy"! That's not exactly true, I grew up in a house! Although, I might say that from now on--spices things up a bit! :-)

Is double posting a drinking thing, like make mine a double ??

add a reply

Yes Dave, I think it is! :-)

Actually, that is a good idea for a "Gone East Game"! (Similar to "Hi Bob"--ya'll know that game, right?) Whenever we read Jack's blog, we MUST be drinking and then when certain things get posted (we make up the rules, obviously Sherman's posts would have a lot to do with this), then we take a drink. Whenever a post gets up there twice--we have to drink twice!

I know, I know, there are faults in the game since this isn't live and we are usually posting alone... but I think drinking is quite a distinguished alone time habit... kinda "Hemmingway-esque". :-)

Well, I'll drink to that!

Drinking Rule Suggestions:

Drink up when...

-Sherman makes a double-entendre!

-MGA makes a pun.

-Jo Ann ends her sentence with an exclamation point!

-Beth corrects someone's spelling.

-Anyone makes an emoticon (mostly Jo Ann with the Smiley). :-)

-Dave misspells a word.

-Janice defends Dave's spelling because it's phonetically correct.

-The two Erik's argue about their existence.

-Alex posts something that he hates about California (even though he lives here).

-Steve Garfield posts and mentions that he was in Time magazine.

-Jack posts something longer than one sentence.

-Beth defends her brother.

-Jack's mom posts (everyone should toast to their mother).

-Jack posts a link to MGA's posts at The Concrete Frog.

-Rick posts something about UCLA.

-Sherman posts anything about Cal and knowing the athletes.

-Rob posts. Period.

Okay, anything else? I have to go to the liquor store...
