Jack, You have a choice as to how you feel. That's what seperates us from the animals. I'm pretty sure about that. That's what Stephen Covey says in his book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective people. Have you read it?

Ah, cognitive therapy. I often suggest it to my students. It's the old glass with some amount of fluid in it: half full or half empty? How you look at things affects how those things affect you. For instance, you often look at my comments as "mean", when you should look at them as "amusing". :)
