A thousand dreadful things

John and Belle wonder about Saddam's denials:

Has any villain, in the history of the political world, ever done the Shakespearean/super-villian thing and just said: I did it because I am a villain. Villains like doing evil.
And they quote a Shakespearean villian:
I have done a thousand dreadful things
As willingly as one would kill a fly,
And nothing grieves me heartily indeed
But that I cannot do ten thousand more.

Did you hear about his first words when he got captured: My name is Saddam Hussein. I am the president of Iraq, and I want to negotiate.

John Stewart did a wonderful riff on this last night -- abouth him trying to offer the "hole" as a bargaining piece. "You can lie down and rest!"
