Where's Adam?

The great Boston Common weblog hasn't been updated since Dec 24. What's up with that?

It's Christmas, for, well for Christ's sake. Maybe he's off visiting relatives and taking a break. Even Cal has shut down everything. I know that Phil (Amherst '80) has sent me an xmas present via Amazon.com, but all mail delivery has been put on hold until the monday after New Year's Day.

The thing about this shutdown, or "curtailment" as the University tries to call it, is that they are trying to force all workers to take vacation days now. They give us Dec 24 & 25, and Dec 31 & Jan 1, but they expect us to use vacation days to complete the curtailment period. They assume that if we work without management supervision (because the office managers do not work during curtailments) that we will show up around 10am, spend all day playing spades on the internet, and then go home at 3pm. It's insulting, considering I didn't go home until 4pm on Friday.

Ayup! Xmas in Illinois with the in-laws. A word to the wise: Do NOT book a flight that involves transferring from US Airways to United or vice-versa. It just sucks and you will end up at home missing a suitcase or two.
