Rose Bowl: USC vs Michigan

RickF, my friend who is a devoted UCLA alum, once told me, "My favorite team is UCLA, and my second favorite team is whoever is playing USC."

Well, Michigan isn't doing their part so far. USC is winning 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

[UPDATE: Hey, I'm a baseball fan, not football, so I didn't realize that NE Patriots QB Tom Brady, is a Michigan alum. So that, and the fact that former roommate (mine, not Brady's) RobH now lives in Ann Arbor, the home of the Michigan "Wolverines" (did I get that right), well, all these things, reinforce my rooting against USC.]

[UPDATE2: Another reason to root for Michigan: It is the alma mater of the characters from the classic movie "The Big Chill".]

Good decision. Here's some more reasons why you made the right choice:

1st: Michigan has connections to Cal. They share colors and the school is the 2nd best public university in the world. Us public boys need to stick together.

2nd: USC is just the incarnation of evil. Stanfurd gets hated on arrogance, but at lease they have the smarts to back up that arrogance. U$C is just a bunch of rich daddy kids. Their fans invaded the Cal Sports Message board (where I am Advising Bear) and trash talked endlessly before our game with them last fall. They dared to assert that they were as good as us academically (bwa ha ha ha ha ha) and ridiculed our chances at beating them. After we kicked their butts in the third overtime (won on a field goal kicked by Tyler, who is well known to regular readers of Shermy's sub-blog) the wussy trash talkers ran away and refused to reappear on our boards, so we had to go onto theirs and trash talk them. The Cal players will tell you that U$C is a dirty team -- squeezing balls (that didn't need a Mom Alert, did it?) in the tackle pile and just being totally arrogant. We in Berkeley are so proud that we are the 1 in U$C's 11 - 1.
