February 13, 2004Survivor All-Stars NotesPosted after Ep #3, Feb 12, 2004. This post, and its comments, may contain spoilers. Here's another thing to add to the "things to learn before leaving home to be on Survivor" list: Some natural way to cope with insect bites. "He may not be impressive downstairs... but he's impressive in other ways." -- Shii Ann about Hatch. "He bit me. I ate him." -- Hatch about the Shark. They were liking Richard for catching the shark. But it's definitely raised him up onto the radar. Which is contrary to what I think his strategy is. The Bob Villa reward challenge. Boston Rob really strengthened his position. Oh, oh, rain. Saboga will be living in an indoor swimming pool. When Jenna started to talk about quitting I thought: Is Jenna gonna pull a Osten? But... Wow! I was watching this play out, getting ready to thrash Jenna for leaving, and then they reveal that her "connection" with her mom was correct. Very sad. I'm sure that the Survivors will not be told on the island about Jenna's Mom. But it will be a bombshell to hear when they leave. And it will make the Reunion show a very different thing this time. When they showed at the end of the ep that Jenna's Mom had died, I thought it was weird that they would "take us out" of the show like that, to the real world. But as I think about it, I realize that if they hadn't done that, Jenna would have been savaged the next day, at watercoolers around the country and here on the nets. They had to tell right away so people could be respectful.

Dalton's story from EW: Wow. Let me say it again. Wow. Now, let me say it backwards. Wow. Great, great episode of ''Survivor.'' I'm not the type to get all weepy. And Lord knows I've taken Jenna Morasca to task in the past for her me-hot, me-first attitude. And even though I knew this was all coming (Jenna's mother's death is a matter of public record), it still was pretty powerful.

""He bit me. I ate him." -- Hatch about the Shark." Loved that!

This was a good episode, albeit sad regarding Jenna. I think this issue was handled well. I'm sure it was the editing, but it looked like we witnessed the moment Jenna decided she would leave the show. The bird was obviously edited in, but they made it look like a spiritual moment... that could have been cheesy, but somehow it worked... and she did seem to have a psychic connection with her mom. I agree with Jack's points about why it was a good idea to let us know about her mom as the show ended. It worked. Regarding her leaving the show, Rick and I were talking about how Survivor contestants can't go home until after the show is completed in order to keep the winner a secret. I would assume that under the circumstances, Burnett let her out of her contract without penalty (or, maybe there was a monetary penalty), but how did it work out that there was no leak in the media that Jenna was back home before the season ended? Obviously, she was spending her time with her family quietly at home, but someone must have seen her, wouldn't ya think? Did Burnett put them in the witness protection program?! Seriously, I wouldn't put something like that past him, but obviously Jenna's mom would not be mobile. Hmm... food for thought. And talking about food... that "Hatch versus the Shark" stuff was pretty wild! His comment "He bit me, I ate him." was classic! But so was Shii Ann's "...impressive in other ways." comment. I gotta say, Hatch is fun on the show, but a part of me was rooting for that poor little shark. :-) Post a comment
