Canadian Surprise

In the World Baseball Classic yesterday The USA team was beaten by the Canadians. A little embarrassing.

A couple of things to note...

A big part of what helped the Canadians get and hold the lead was the excellent play by Redsox player Adam Stern. He hit an inside the park homer, and made two outstanding catches to prevent runs.

On the US side, the gap was narrowed by a grand slam homerun by Redsox captain catcher Jason Varitek.

The bad news is that the loss puts the highly favored US team in the position of possibly being eliminated today without even playing their next game. If Mexico wins, with a couple of particular final scores, the US team will be mathematically eliminated.
