USA Out of WBC
The USA Team was eliminated from the World Baseball Classic yesterday. It was only a matter of time, the team seemed to be lacking something, and was destined to be eliminated eventually. Too bad.
I think this reveals the big flaw in the WBC idea. I would propose that in the future the tournament be limited to players who are not already part of Major League Baseball. It should be a showcase for players from around the world who are not in the Majors.
The MLB players are always gonna be under-represented cause they are not really motivated to participate. There's the risk of getting injured, and they don't really need the exposure. And the fact that so many players stay away, keeps it from ever being the "World's Championship" which would make it appealing to all.
It's really just a World Minor League Tournament. So emphasize this aspect of it.
