June 25, 2003Bad News Good NewsIt's incredibly humid here again for the second day in a row. This may signal the -- finally -- beginning of summer weather. I went swimming! And boy did it feel good. I'm not a big swimmer, but it was the perfect way to cool off. Comments

You'll be happy to know we are having a heat wave in Berkeley. 90 freaking degrees. (Okay, how many children read this weblog -- do I really need to use euphamisms?)

stay in that water long enough and maybe the cousin to that "tic", "a leach" will attach himself to your leg also.

So, in the second Alien movie (titled Aliens) there's a scene where the marines finally find the cocooned colonists and they're pretty much all dead and then they find a live one and she sputters out the words "Kill me." in this pleadingt whisper. "Kill me. Please kill me." She knows what's about to happen and then they don't have to kill her anyway because she dies as the lille alien with the big teeth comes ripping out of her chest. So today, the third day of the heat wave, the day that wasn't supposed to happen because it was supposed to break today but it was still stinking hot today and it was almost kinda worse because after two days of heat, the buildings have retained the high temps and it was 87 freaking degrees (have we settled the do children read this blog question?) in my office today and when I took the bus home, it was horrible inside because after three days of blistering heat, the metal bus was just an oven and we finally got close to my stop and I stood up and walked to the front of the bus so I would be ready to exit the oven as soon as possible and while I was standing at the yellow line, which you are not allowed to cross while the bus is in transit according to some law -- they have a sign at the front of the bus saying so -- and I'm standing there with my toes just at the edge of that yellow line and I realize that the woman sitting at the front of the bus who has her head down and was wasted from the heat just like the rest of us, was whispering. Sputtering out this pleading whisper. "Kill me." I don't think she's deranged or suicidal -- I fully appreciate her thought. I assume she wanted to die rather than continue facing the heat, but who knows? After I left, mabye something ate its way thru her chest.
