Not humiliation

Over in comments, Sherm has challenged me on the use of the word "humiliation" in the title "A very public humiliation" and he's right.

I was going for the clever play on words, and I was mostly focused on the word "public". My point was that, whatever it was we suffered that night, it was very public. Maybe "Public Disappointment" would have been better.

We still beat your ass in that road rally, though.
Humiliated you, even. I remember your cousin moaning when he realized who was taking 3rd place.
I was bummed to find out that since it was the last rally of the season, instead of trophies for 1, 2, and 3 like always, they just gave a trophy to #1 and spent the money on food for a final rally feed.
