Well, perhaps I should have said "Out here in the boonies of West Roxbury and Roslindale, they work ... " Why, at the corner of LaGrange and Centre streets, they've even supplemented them with a cute countdown clock that tells you how many seconds you have left before you get run over by an SUV.

Countdown clocks? Yep. We got 'em. They started installing them in Berkeley about 4 months ago. Some only start the countdown when the hand like the one over Paul's head on the Sgt Peper album starts flashing and it's time to get moving. Others give you the countdown from the start of the walk cycle.
