D.C. Alert System Fails

Homeland Security and Bush Administration official are spinning yesterday's panic as a "success" of the alert system. But let's set this straight.

They initiated a huge evacuation as a result of something that was not a threat. They overreacted big-time.

You can say that it "could" have been a serious threat, but it WASN'T. It was an unarmed, very small plane, that was lost. There was no actual danger, and the system failed to determine that before panicking the entire national infrastructure.

It failed.
